The European Tour is holding two events this week, the Golf in Dubai and the South African Open. This week’s event in Dubai is a new one, as it is a lead-in to next week’s Dubai Championship. This event will start on Wednesday and finish on Saturday and it will be held on the Fire course at Jumeirah Golf Estates instead of the Earth course which will host next week’s DP World Tour Championship. Favorite
Bernd Wiesberger and Robert MacIntyre 12-1
I think Wiesberger is overvalued at these odds. He has not played since finishing 58th at the Masters. I think this event is simply a tournament to get Wiesberger into better form heading into next week’s Dubai Championship. I think there is more value on MacIntyre at odds of 12-1. He is in really good form right now and it would not be a surprise if he took this title. I don’t back many favorites and I will probably pass on MacIntyre at these odds, but I am at least taking a look at him.
Value Plays
Aaron Rai 22-1
Rai already has a win this year at the Scottish Open and he finished second at the Irish Open and third at the Scottish Championship. He hasn’t been that great lately, but this field is not overwhelming this week and I think Rai is capable of contending.
Adri Arnaus 25-1
If you have been paying attention to the odds board you know that there has been some definite movement on Arnaus for this week’s event. Arnaus lives in Dubai so he should have some local knowledge. “Dubai has such a vast range of great courses with impressive layouts so I’m really looking forward to playing on the Fire course for only the second time.” Arnaus said to the media, “It’s going to be a good test with some fun holes that allow you to attack more than the Earth course. It will be new for us so we will have to adapt and enjoy the challenge.”
Rasmus Hojgaard 35-1
We know that Hojgaard is a threat any time he tees it up. The teenager already has two wins this season in the Mauritius Open and the UK Championship. He also has a number of other top 10 finishes and he is capable of doing really well on the Fire Course this week. I think he is worth a shot at odds of 35-1.
Marc Warren 90-1
I can’t ignore Warren this week at big odds. He is listed at 90-1 and you may even get him at 100-1. He won the Austrian Open in July and played well at the Scottish Open. It is rare when you get a chance to back a player at huge odds who has proven he knows how to win. It would not be shock to see Warren contend this week.
