The European Tour stays in Cyprus this week for the Cyprus Showdown which will have a different format than normal. This event will feature a 105-man field for the first two rounds as normal, but only the top 32 players will advance to Saturday with their scores reset and then the top 16 players will advance to Sunday with their scores reset again. Thomas Detry is a lukewarm favorite in what looks to be a wide-open tournament. Let’s look at Cyprus Showdown odds and picks.
Course: Aphrodite Hills Resort, Paphos, Cyprus
This is a par 71 course that measures 6,828 yards. Driver won’t be a major factor this week, so shorter hitters will be able to compete. The course has Bermuda fairways and water is a factor on just two holes.

Favorite
Thomas Detry 26-1
Detry is listed as the favorite in this event, but I can’t remember when a favorite was listed with odds this high. I almost never take favorites, but this week I don’t even consider Detry as a normal favorite since there are 17 players listed with odds between 26-1 and 40-1. I definitely won’t talk you out of taking the favorite this week as I normally do. Detry finished in a tie for 10th last week and it would not be a shock to see him win this week.
Value Plays
Robert MacIntyre 28-1
I think you can make a case for MacIntyre being the favorite this week. Keep in mind that this event is played at the same course as last week and MacIntyre played really week a week ago with four rounds of 68 or better. He finished in a tie for 3rd and I expect him to contend again this week.
Sami Valimaki 30-1
I like the way that Valimaki is playing right now and he was very much in the mix last week, as he finished in a tie for 6th. This event is definitely a crapshoot as players will have their scores reset after every round. Valimaki had four good rounds last week and I see no reason he can’t contend again this week.
Rasmus Hojgaard 32-1
Hojgaard has already won twice this season and there is no reason to think he can’t win again. He is just 19-years old and shows no fear on the course. We know that Hojgaard can make a lot of birdies and I think he will put up some low scores this week. I will take Hojgaard at this number.
David Horsey 50-1
Horsey has been playing better of late. He started off last week with a couple of good rounds and then faded. I expect him to put together four good rounds this week and that makes him a live dog.
Matthew Southgate 50-1
Southgate will have a lot of confidence heading into this week as he closed with a 64 on Sunday last week to finish in 17th place. If he can put together four rounds close to the one he put up on Sunday he could be in the mix this week and we get him at odds of 50-1.
