Favorite

Andy Sullivan 12-1

You should know by now I don’t take favorites and I am not backing Sullivan, but I can at least understand why oddsmakers have him as the top choice. He is the highest ranked golfer in the field at No. 69 in the world and he did break a long five-year winless drought by winning in August at Hanbury Manor. He tied for third in his most recent event at Wentworth. He leads the European Tour in scrambling so if the wind picks up he could be in the mix this weekend, but again, I am not taking him at these odds.

Value Plays

Joost Luiten 22-1

There are not that many players in the field who know how to win but one of them is Luiten who has started to play better. He has three straight top 20 finishes including a 10th place finish in Italy. I think there is some value in taking Luiten at odds of more than 20-1.

Marcus Kinhult 25-1

You have to like the way that Kinhult is playing right now with two straight top 10 finishes. He won his first European Tour title last season and Kinhult has done well on coastal courses in the past. I give him a good chance to be in contention this week.

Laurie Canter 25-1

I was on Canter last week and he just couldn’t close for his first European Tour win. I am coming right back with him this week. At first I was hesitant to back players who just missed the previous week, but recently I have discovered that many times those players bounce back and win fairly soon. I will take a shot with Canter to do that this week.

Sam Horsfield 28-1

Not much has gone right for Horsfield since winning in August, but this field is weak and there is no denying his talent. Cyprus is a good place for Horsfield to get his game back in order and I’ll look at taking him the next two weeks.

Pablo Larrazabal 65-1

As I said with Luiten, there are not that many players who know how to win in this field, but one of them is Larrazabal. He has won five times on the European Tour and he played better in the BMW with a couple of really good rounds.
