Teams

Either the Philadelphia Eagles or the Washington Commanders will win the NFC East Division title this season. Philly is currently atop the division with a 7-2 record, while Washington is a half-game behind at 7-3. Both teams are well ahead of Dallas and New York, so their tilts in Week 11 and Week 16 will likely decide the division and earn the victor at least one home game in the postseason. They will square off for the first time this season on Thursday Night Football.

Week 11 Washington Commanders at Philadelphia Eagles

Washington Commanders +3.5

Philadelphia Eagles -3.5

Total 49

There hasn’t been any movement on the spread in this game, but the total has moved downward from what we saw with the opening NFL betting odds. Initially, the over/under was set at 50, but that has dropped over the last 24 hours.

Washington Commanders Overview

Jayden Daniels is a shoo-in to be named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Daniels has been excellent this season, completing 68.7% of his passes for 2,147 yards while averaging 8.2 YPA. He has only thrown for nine touchdowns and two interceptions, but he is the team’s leading rusher with 464 yards (5.5 YPA) and four touchdowns. Daniels has made this offense one of the most dangerous units in the NFL, and his play is the reason why the Commanders are a playoff contender just one year after finishing 4-13.

Terry McLaurin is the team’s top receiver with 47 receptions for 711 yards, and he has six of Washington’s 11 receiving touchdowns to this point. Veteran tight end Zach Ertz has been the second-most popular target, while the running backs have done enough to keep defenses honest. Austin Ekeler is still a decent dual threat option, while Brian Robinson Jr. continues to play well.

The Commanders have not been good at stopping the run. Although Daron Payne is a solid defensive tackle, Bobby Wagner is finally starting to show his age, and Dante Fowler Jr. is more of a pass rusher. That’s why Washington ranks in the bottom five in run defense, surrendering 4.8 YPC and 142.1 YPG. Fortunately, the secondary has been better, and they have added Marshon Lattimore.to give the team another quality defender.

Philadelphia Eagles Overview

I was one of the people doubting Philadelphia coming into the season. The Eagles did not finish well in 2023, and it looked like they would regress after a 2-2 start this year. Nick Sirianni has led the team to five straight victories since the bye week though, and three of those wins came by 20 points or more.

Jalen Hurts hasn’t been as dynamic as he was last year though. Hurts is completing 69.8% of his passes for 1,976 yards (8.4 YPA) with 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. He is averaging just 4.1 YPC (although he has run for 10 touchdowns), and he hasn’t been as effective when A.J. Brown has been out of the lineup.

Saquon Barkley has been a fantastic addition for the Eagles. Barkley has run for 991 yards (5.8 YPC) with six touchdowns, and his vision and skill have helped this offense become even better at running the ball. They haven’t moved the ball as well without Jason Kelce at center, but the right side of the line is still excellent with Mekhi Becton and Lane Johnson holding it down. Tight end Dallas Goedert and wide receiver DeVonta Smith are both listed as questionable.

The Eagles have a top five defense. They are allowing just 17.9 PPG and rank second in both yards per play allowed and total defense. Unfortunately, Nakobe Dean and Darius Slay Jr. are both listed as questionable to suit up on a short turnaround.

Thursday Night Football Prediction

Philadelphia has won five of its last six and 11 of its last 14 games against Washington. Daniels would love to show that the franchise has truly turned a new corner, but the Eagles are likely to be just too much for them in all likelihood. I believe Philly will pick up the cover at home here.

Final Score: Philadelphia 27, Washington 20
