This has been the worst year for Survivor picks on record, and one of the best years ever to bet heavy underdogs on the moneyline. Major Survivor competitions have already seen 90-95% of their entrants eliminated after just five weeks. The San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks both fell victim to this trend last week with San Francisco once again losing as a formidable favorite. The Niners were a 7.5-point favorite per the NFL betting odds over the Arizona Cardinals but instead fell to 2-3 after suffering their third loss as a favorite of four points or more already this season. As for Seattle, the Seahawks fell at home to the New York Giants as a touchdown favorite.
Week 6 San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks
San Francisco 49ers -3.5
Seattle Seahawks +3.5
Total 47.5
Both San Francisco and Seattle have failed to defeat a conference opponent so far this season. Instead, both teams have largely beaten up on the beleaguered AFC East. The oddsmakers believe that San Francisco will put a halt to this on Thursday Night Football and installed the Niners as a field goal favorite by the football betting line. Early action has been on San Francisco too, pushing the line to San Francisco by 3.5 points.
San Francisco 49ers Overview
It’s been frustrating to watch the 49ers so far this season. San Francisco should certainly be better than its 2-3 record, but the Niners keep finding ways to lose games. Their three losses came by a combined total of 10 points, and they have already lost to two of their three division opponents.
San Francisco has been great on offense. The Niners rank second in total offense (407.4 YPG) and second in yards per play (6.3 YPP). However, they have struggled mightily in the red zone, scoring a touchdown on just 40.9% of their trips inside the opponents’ 20-yard line. That has led to the Niners ranking just 10th in scoring offense at 25.2 PPG.
Brock Purdy is a bit turnover prone, but he has largely played well in completing 65.6% of his passes for 1,374 yards (8.8 YPA) with six touchdowns and four interceptions. Jauan Jennings has been his top target instead of Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel so far, and Jordan Mason is averaging 5.1 YPC in place of Christian McCaffrey.
The defense has been concerning given the talent on this side of the ball. Injuries have played a major part in those issues, and six starters are considered to be questionable or out for this game. Much of the secondary is banged up, so we could see San Francisco continue to have issues on this side of the ball.
Seattle Seahawks Overview
Geno Smith has to be a bit sore after taking a beating in a loss to the New York Giants last week. The offensive line allowed Smith to be sacked seven times, and they have allowed multiple sacks in every game so far this season. Given the lack of consistent protection, Smith has played relatively well, completing 71.9% of his passes for 1,466 yards (7.4 YPA) with five touchdowns and four interceptions. He has also run the ball 20 times for 146 yards, showing that he still has elusiveness even though he will turn 34 on Thursday night.
Kenneth Walker III has run for 202 yards (5.5 YPC) and four touchdowns. Walker has been significantly more productive than rookie Zach Charbonnet, so Seattle is happy to have him back after he missed the team’s last two games. D.K. Metcalf has 28 receptions for 421 yards and two touchdowns as the team’s leading receiver, but he has also lost two fumbles.
The Seahawks have some injury concerns on defense. Starting linebackers Uchenna Nwosu and Boye Mafe have already bene declared out, while three of the four members of the starting secondary are listed as questionable.
Thursday Night Football Prediction
Offensive line play will be the deciding factor in this game. Both teams are dealing with major issues in their secondaries and will look to get after the opposing quarterback in order to mitigate those issues.
Final Score: Seattle 27, San Francisco 24
