It’s crazy to think that the Green Bay Packers could finish 13-4 and be the third-best team in the NFC North. Green Bay is currently 10-4 but sits two games behind 12-2 Detroit and Minnesota for the lead in the division. That means the Packers will certainly be on the road in the first round of the playoffs despite probably having a better record than their Wild Card Round opponent. All the Packers can do is play the schedule in front of them though, and they are heavy favorites by the NFL betting lines against the 6-8 New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football.

Week 16 New Orleans Saints at Green Bay Packers

New Orleans Saints +14 Green Bay Packers -14 Total 42.5

Green Bay opened as a 13.5-point favorite in this game, and the line has moved all the way up to Packers -14.5 over the course of the week. Although Spencer Rattler led the New Orleans Saints back from the brink against the Washington Commanders last week, he still needs a ton of work and bettors are lining up to bet against him. The total has fallen a point from 43 to 42.5.

New Orleans Saints Overview

Spencer Rattler nearly led the New Orleans Saints to a comeback win over the Washington Commanders last week. However, the two-point conversion try at the end of regulation came up short, dropping the Saints to 5-9 and virtually eliminating them from postseason contention.

Rattler earned a start this week, but the rookie has been shaky this season in limited action. He has completed 57.5% of his passes for 706 yards (5.9 YPA) with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Additionally, he has been sacked a whopping 14 times while throwing the ball 120 times, highlighting that he holds onto the ball for far too long.

Alvin Kamara is the top rusher and receiver on the Saints. Kamara has run for 950 yards (4.2 YPC) and six touchdowns, and he has caught 68 passes for 543 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately, he is considered doubtful with a thigh injury. Chris Olave and Taysom Hill are on injured reserve too, and that means the Saints don’t really have many options at the skill positions.

New Orleans ranks 30th in total defense and yards per play allowed. The Saints rank in the top half of the league in scoring defense though as the situational defense has been solid.

Green Bay Packers Overview

It’s been impressive to watch the Green Bay offense this season. Jordan Love is completing 63.7% of his passes for 2,953 yards (8.3 YPC) with 23 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Love has only been sacked 11 times as his offensive line has done an outstanding job protecting, and four receivers have at least 500 receiving yards at this point.

Josh Jacobs has been arguably the third-best running back in the NFL this season. Jacobs has run for 1,147 yards and 12 touchdowns, keeping the Packers ahead on down and distance. Emanuel Wilson has been a quality backup too with 4.8 YPC, and leading receiver Jayden Reed has occasionally been involved in the run game too.

Green Bay ranks in the top ten in scoring defense and total defense. The Packers have been solid all around, and they have forced quite a few turnovers, ranking fourth in the NFL in that department. Quay Walker might be a Pro Bowl selection with his play, but there is no doubt that Xavier McKinney is one of the top safeties in the league with seven interceptions, nine pass defenses, and 75 tackles.

Monday Night Football Prediction

I don’t like to lay double digits often, but I will in this game. Green Bay has actual stakes on the line, while New Orleans is set to play out the string. Rattler is very flawed as a rookie quarterback (as anyone that watched him at Oklahoma or South Carolina would have told you), and he is likely to make mistakes at Lambeau Field. I expect the Packers to cruise to an easy victory in a game that is very one-sided.

Final Score: Green Bay 31, New Orleans 13
