Boxing Picks – Demetrius Andrade vs. Maciej Sulecki Preview

Most any other boxer stepping into the ring against Demetrius Andrade would likely play it modest and coy and express respect for him and the opportunity to win a championship. But Maciej Sulecki is not any other boxer.  Indeed, the Polish native is a major underdog at top rated sportsbooks for his World Boxing Organization world middleweight championship fight against Andrade.  But Sulecki has taken the attack and gone on offense, at least verbally that is.  For Andrade this fight is the equivalent of a college football homecoming as he will be fighting in his home town of Providence, Rhode Island.  And while Sulecki has pronounced his belief in his chances, gamblers are less convinced.

Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island will be the venue for the World Boxing Organization world middleweight championship fight between defending champion Demetrius Andrade (27-0, 17 knockouts) and Maciej Sulecki (28-1, 11 knockouts).  DAZN will televise the bout that is scheduled for 12 rounds on June 29, 2019.

Certainly, the homecoming aspect of this fight is among the reasons that Demetrius Andrade is a prohibitive favorite at Online sportsbooks.  Beyond that is the fact that Andrade has never lost a fight and has won multiple championships in different divisions during his career.  Andrade also has the experience of having successfully fought in two title defense bouts as a pro.  Andrade has never had the opportunity to fight in his hometown which will bring even further motivation for his championship bout against Sulecki.

Matchroom Boxing Promoter Eddie Hearn helped broker the deal for the fight to take place at Providence.

"It's done. It's his homecoming," said Hearn. "Hopefully, we can fill up the Dunkin Donuts Center and make it a big deal, and he can start getting some credibility and profile and say, 'I'm not just a B-side. I'm the link to the undisputed title.'"

With this fight comes the possibility of a dream matchup between Andrade and Canelo Alvarez should Andrade prevail against Sulecki.  

Meanwhile Sulecki is hardly acting like the underdog that he is at Offshore sportsbooks.  He has had plenty to say about his chances and his opponent.

“I am very happy I got this fight,” said Sulecki. “Andrade's one of the weakest Middleweights out there in my eyes. I know for sure that I'm going to put on a great fight and show it off. I know he's a great fighter but he hasn't fought anybody. He's fought Jack Culcay who is no one, and I will show the world who I am and what I can do inside that ring.  “I believe the fans will come out for this fight. It's only talk in the press conferences and on social media, on fight night, the fists will do the talking. Talk is cheap. He's World champion and he's very good so he's confident, but I am very confident too and I hope he's ready for what I am bringing to the ring as he's never fought anyone like me.”

Andrade is certainly not taking the capable Sulecki for granted, especially with a future shot at a unification title bout on the line.  

“Sulecki is one of the top guys in the division, you can't overlook this guy," Andrade said. "He has earned this shot, and I am expecting him to bring it. That being said, I am the best 160-pounder in the sport, and I plan on showing every single aspect of that come June 29th. This is my time."

While Sulecki is to be respected for being one of the toughest fighters in the game the fact remains Andrade is at a world class level and has the world championship experience that Sulecki lacks.  With a fight at home and a shot at Canelo, Andrade rates the call.
