Not the greatest of showings last weekend. There were some solid in-game scenarios that allowed for us to recoup some of those losses, but that didn’t matter if you don’t follow me on Twitter. The following are my top rated selections for this weekend.
Not the greatest of showings with last weekend’s college basketball picks. We ended up taking the collar with Seton Hall and St. John’s failing to go over paired with the Miami Hurricanes, Arkansas Razorbacks and Cal Golden Bears all failing to get the job done against the spread. There were some solid in-game scenarios that allowed for us to recoup some of those losses, but that didn’t matter if you don’t follow me on Twitter. If you plan on following me the remainder of the season through the Madness, be sure to follow me on Twitter @MikeRose77 for any live bets that crop up. I’m hoping this weekend’s selections prove to be much more beneficial to the bottom line. The following are my top rated selections for this weekend’s college hoops betting action – Slam Your Man!!
Saturday CBB Picks
Duke Blue Devils vs. Louisville Cardinals
I don’t care what the number is, I want a piece of the Redbirds in their first game of the post Chris-Mack era. The Ville is a much better team than its 11-9 SU and 6-13-1 ATS records suggest. On the flipside, the Dookies aren’t as good as their 16-3 SU and 10-7-2 ATS records suggest. As such, I’ll be taking the points when the behemoth otherwise known as Paolo Banchero hits the KFC Yum! Center hardwood laying what’s likely to be an inflated number on the CBB betting lines. Louisville had shown well against the Blue Devils up until last year’s showdown in the ACC tournament when they fell 70-56 as 3-point dogs. Before that, they rattled off wins in three straight and covered the previous four. Look for this to be a low scorer with limited possessions that should allow for the Cardinals to cover as likely near double-digit home dogs.
Michigan Wolverines vs. Michigan State Spartans
Sparty was caught looking ahead earlier in the week at Illinois where it dropped a 1-point decision to the undermanned Fighting Illini. I fully expect all hands to be on deck for this matchup against a hated in-state rival with MSU looking to rattle off a fourth straight win and cover against the college basketball odds when hosting the Wolverines. Though the Maize and blue look to have turned things around with three straight wins (2-1 ATS), I’m still not sold on this bunch. It’s a lesser form than last year’s Elite Eight team that turns the ball over a ton and continues to play at a snail’s pace. Look for Sparty to take advantage of its excellence on the offensive glass and cover a point spread in the 3-5 point range. Asked to lay any more than that, pass!
Arizona State Sun Devils vs. Arizona Wildcats
So I took an ugly loss fading Zona last Sunday in Berkley, but made up for it and some by fading Tommy Lloyd’s kids at UCLA in a huge spot for the Bruins. I will reverse course this Saturday and lay what’s likely to be heavy wood versus their in-state rivals. Arizona State simply doesn’t have the trees to deal with the barrage the Wildcats bigs are likely to throw at them in the paint. The Sun Devils own the nation’s No. 289 ranked 2-point defense. Arizona is ranked No. 6 in 2-point scoring, so you do the match! On top of all that, the Wildcats are going to own the glass which should allow them to run ASU right out of the gym. Be prepared to lay upwards of 20+ points!
Marquette Golden Eagles vs. Providence Friars
A big ones set to go down in the Big East with the No. 22 Golden Eagles looking to sweep the season rivalry from the No. 17 ranked Friars. Lest we forget, Shaka Smart’s kids handed Providence an ugly 88-56 loss as 1-point Fiserv Forum favorites back on January 4. It’s a loss that Ed Cooley’s kids have continued to speak of ever since. They’ve had this one circled ever since the clock went to double zeroes the first time around. Marquette couldn’t miss while Aljami Durham and his mates couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. Coming off a huge last second win at Xavier paired with Justin Lewis leading Marquette to a huge win at Seton Hall earlier in the week, look for the Friars to put forth a “circle the wagons” type effort to hold onto their top billing in the standings.
Sunday CBB Picks
Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Purdue Boilermakers
Chris Holtmann’s troops haven’t been receiving much of any praise from those attacking the B1G betting lines on a weekly basis. With its best win logged at home against Wisconsin back in early December, it’s easy to see why. Since then, it’s gone 4-2 SU and 2-4 ATS with the only covers coming against Northwestern and Indiana Purdue at home; not the greatest of portfolios there! Dependent upon the Buckeyes not succumbing to any injuries at Minnesota on Thursday night and Jamari Wheeler getting back in the mix, I like OSU’s chances of hanging with a Purdue squad that I don’t believe to be nearly as good as its rankings and overall record suggests. Should either of its bigs get into any type of foul trouble, E.J. Liddell should be able to eat them alive close to the rack. Provided Justin Ahrens can get his head out of his butt and start draining 3’s with regularity once again, Ohio State will be in this one all the way through in what would likely turn out to be a track meet.
