Los Angeles Chargers next games & StandingsWith a 9.5-game season win total and near 14-1 odds to win Super Bowl LIV, the Los Angeles Chargers are expected to give the Kansas City Chiefs a run for their money in the fight for AFC West supremacy and be in the mix for the Lombardi Trophy at online sportsbooks in 2019-20. Anthony Lynn’s troops tied Kansas City for the most AFC wins in the regular season before seeing its campaign come up short in an ugly 41-28 beat down at the hands of the eventual Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. Now a year wiser and healthier, the Bolts certainly look to have a team capable of making some major noise and franchise-firsts this upcoming season.
All the integral pieces from last year’s potent offensive attack return. While Melvin Gordon says he’ll hold out if a new contract isn’t agreed upon, the Chargers already proved to have more than enough weapons in the backfield to replace him with both Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson who both return this season. Keenan Allen is the premiere pass catcher in the wide receiver corps, but Mike Williams let it be known that he’s more than capable of becoming the offense’s premiere pass catcher after turning 43 receptions into 664 yards and 10 touchdowns a short season ago. Added to the Chargers potent passing offense will be a healthy tight end in the form of Hunter Henry who numerous fantasy footballers are targeting in their upcoming drafts. The pieces are all in place to dramatically improve upon the No. 11 ranked overall offense the unit put forth last season.
The defense was without one of its most integral pieces a bulk of the 2018-19 season. Even so, the Chargers ranked out with the No. 9 overall and No. 8 scoring defense. Joey Bosa is said to be completely recovered from the injury that kept him on the sidelines for more than half of the regular season. Him once again joining forced with Melvin Ingram should have Gus Bradley’s stop unit on the up and up. A pass defense anchored by Casey Heyward and James Derwin should once again make life a living hell for opposing quarterbacks as well. This unit held four of its last five opponents to 21 points or less leading up to the blood bath in Gillette Stadium. In other words, LA’s defense won’t be the reason why it doesn’t compete for the division title this season.
There aren’t many layups on the Chargers regular season schedule. Sure, they get the benefit of running up against the Raiders twice along with the Lions and Dolphins, but the remainder of the schedule is far from a walk in the park. From Week 6 leading up to the much needed Week 12 bye, Los Angeles will have taken on the Steelers, Bears, Packers, and Chiefs. All four of those teams are expected to qualify for the playoffs. If that game against Kansas City in Mexico City isn’t won, it’ll be darn near close to impossible for them to dethrone the Chiefs after pulling off a shocker in Arrowhead last season. Whether they win the AFC West for the first time since 2009 or not, you best take the Bolts as serious Super Bowl contenders at top rated sportsbooks as locked in and ready to go the team looks to be heading into the regular season.
