UFC 92: The Ultimate 2008

UFC 92: “The Ultimate 2008? At the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, December 27, featuring a trio of blockbuster bouts atop the fight card that are sure to create fireworks on New Year’s Eve weekend.

The main event will answer the question of who is the greatest fighter to come off UFC's reality show The Ultimate Fighter. Griffin (16-4) has won three straight, while Evans (17-0-1) is coming off a big knockout of UFC legend Chuck Liddell.

Former heavyweight champion Frank Mir will challenge current interim division titlist Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira for the right to advance to the final round of the heavyweight tournament arranged to declare an undisputed champion. Frank and Nogueira are opposing coaches on this season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) that airs on the Spike TV network on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET.

The winner of the match will face the victor of the bout between UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar, which takes place at UFC 92 on November 15, at a later date sometime in early 2009.

Rampage confirmed that he will fight again before the year is over, and that he has already agreed to fight Silva, who has beaten him twice. The only remaining issue is whether Silva will agree to it and doing it a third time would make him an even bigger star among American fans.

This fight will undoubtedly tell us a lot about both fighters. Other than the KO of Keith Jardine - Wanderlei has looked sub-par for the last couple of years and on the other hand Rampage's boxing and conditioning seem to have greatly improved since their previous meetings.

Top middleweight contender Yushin Okami (21-4-1) will return to action against Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Dean Lister (11-5) at UFC 92 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on December 27.

Yushin Okami is on a two-fight win streak since the defeat and most recently scored a knockout of the late Evan Tanner at UFC 82: “Pride of a Champion” back in March.

Dean Lister is the 2003 Abu Dhabu Combat Club (ADCC) Absolute Division Champion and is also, in the midst of back-to-back wins, submitting the crafty Jeremy Horn with a guillotine choke at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 7 Finale back in June.
