UFC 82 “Pride of a Champion”
Event: UFC 82: “Pride of a Champion”
Date: Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 10 p.m. ET on pay-per-view (PPV)
Location: Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio
Main Event:
UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva (20-4) vs. Dan Henderson (22-6)
Anderson Silva will bring a record of 20-4 into this fight. Twelve of his victories have come by knockout, and three have come by decision. Anderson "The Spider" Silva is on a six fight winning streak right now, and has one of the most impressive resumes in the UFC. In his last six fights, Silva has beaten the likes of Rick Franklin (twice), Nathan Marquardt and Travis Lutter.
He became the UFC 185 lb. Champion when he defeated Rich Franklin at UFC 64 via a first round KO.
“The Spider” then took on Travis Lutter in February in a non-title bout, with Silva finishing Lutter by submission at 2:11 of the second round. Silva defended his title for the first time against Nathan Marquardt at UFC 73 in July and scored an impressive first round TKO. In October, the Brazilian firmly established himself on top of the pound for pound list when he knocked out Franklin a second time in their highly-anticipated rematch at UFC 77, and on March 1, Silva will look to add a third UFC title defense to his record, as well as a new accolade as the undisputed 185 lb. world champion by defeating PRIDE 185 lb. Champion Dan Henderson at UFC 82.
Dan "Hollywood" Henderson will bring a 22-6-0 record in this fight in March, with ten of his victories coming by knockout. His last two fights were a Decision loss to Quinton Jackson and a Knockout victory against Wanderlei Silva. This should be a great fight.
Other confirmed match-ups so far include:
Jon Fitch vs. Chris Wilson
Fitch (15-2-0) is riding a 14-fight win streak, including seven straight UFC contests. The 29-year-old former college wrestler was originally scheduled to face Akihiro Gono (Pictures), who was forced to withdraw with a hand injury.
Wilson (13-3-0), who will be making his UFC debut, has key wins over Rory Markham (Pictures) and current International Fight League welterweight champion Jay Hieron (Pictures).
The Portland native is on a four-fight winning streak, having defeated UFC veteran Derek Noble in his last fight this past October.
