Rich Franklin Vs Vitor Belfort
On September 19th, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, Belfort returns to the Octagon for the first time in over four years to take on former middleweight champion Rich Franklin in the light heavyweight main event of UFC 103.
Belfort is one of the most explosive stand up fighters of all-time. On the flip side, Franklin is one of the most well-rounded MMA fighters in the game today. Further, both guys like to bang, making this a smart match up by the UFC.
Franklin, a former middleweight champion, on the other hand just competed at 195 pounds in a winning performance against Wanderlei Silva at UFC 99. However, Franklin is making no real progress at light heavyweight since a return to the weight class last year with a technical knockout win over Matt Hamill.
Mirko Cro Cop Vs Junior Santos
Junior Santos is 2-0 in the UFC and has shown off devastating punching power, needing just 1:21 to knock out Fabricio Werdum at UFC 90 and just 54 seconds to knock out Stefan Struve at UFC 95. Cro Cop is a legend and made his initial return to the UFC a successful one at UFC 99 as he stopped Mustapha al Turk by TKO in the first round. The winner of a potential fight between these two heavyweights would be seen as a top contender in the heavyweight division.
In addition, Martin Kampmann and Mike Swick will collide to determine the number one contender for Georges St. Pierre’s 170-pound title.
Swick is currently 4-0 at 170 pounds and is coming off of an impressive victory in a technical knockout win over Ben Saunders at UFC 99 earlier this month. The American Kickboxing Academy-trained fighter has also defeated Jonathan Goulet, Marcus Davis and Josh Burkman since dropping down to Welterweight after a unanimous decision loss to Yushi Okami at UFC 69 in April of 2007
Kampmann last saw action as part of the UFC Fight Night 18 card where he defeated former WEC Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit via split decision in the main event of the evening. Kampmann strung together nine straight wins as a Middleweight before dropping a devastating TKO loss to Nate Marquardt at UFC 88 in September. After the loss, Kampmann dropped a weight class to 170 pounds and scored a TKO win over Alexandre Barros at UFC 93 in January in his Welterweight debut.
