The UFC 102 event could be untitled USA Versus Brazil. All the fighters are either American or Brazilian, 6 fighters out of 20 are coming from Brazil the rest of them is all American citizens. The lineup looks really impressive, featuring only Heavyweight and Middleweight bouts.
Randy Couture (16-9) vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (31-5-1) will serve as the main event for the promotion's debut in Portland. Couture was stopped in the second round of a November 2008 bout with Brock Lesnar, relinquishing his UFC heavyweight title in the process.
Meanwhile, Nogueira dropped the UFC's interim heavyweight title to Frank Mir in a second-round TKO loss at UFC 92 in December 2008.
UFC 102 Coture Vs Nogueira, will be joined on the pay-per-view main card by Keith Jardine vs. Thiago Silva, Chris Leben vs. Jake Rosholt, Demian Maia vs. Nate Marquardt, and Matt Hamill vs. Brandon Vera.
Keith Jardine vs. Thiago Silva
Thiago Silva is fresh off of a knockout loss courtesy of upcoming light heavyweight championship challenger Lyoto Machida at UFC 94. Prior to that the American Top Team trained fighter had gone undefeated in his professional mixed martial arts career with four consecutive victories in the octagon.
Jardine always just seems a couple wins away from a title shot in the UFC. After his impressive victory over Forrest Griffin he was brutalized at the hands of Houston Alexander, he rebounded from that loss with a decision victory over Chuck Liddell only to be knocked stiff at the hands of Wanderlei Silva, and most recently Jardine out pointed Brandon Vera but came up on the losing end of a hard fought decision to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 96.
Demian Maia vs. Nate Marquardt
Also, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace Demian Maia will put his undefeated record on the line against former UFC Middleweight Championship challenger Nate Marquardt.
Maia has been on an incredible roll in the Octagon as of late, winning five straight UFC fights while racking up four Submission of the Night bonuses during that time frame. He holds a perfect 10-0 MMA record and also has UFC victories over Nate Quarry, Jason MacDonald, Ed Herman and Ryan Jensen.
While Marquardt, is on a two-fight winning streak, defeating Martin Kampmann via first-round TKO in a bout that sent Kampmann to the Welterweight division at UFC 88 before stopping Wilson Gouveia in the third round of their bout at UFC 95, scoring with a tremendous striking combination to finish the fight.
Marquardt has had a shot at Silva back at UFC 73 in July of 2007 but was stopped by TKO in the first round and after losing to Anderson Silva he is 3-1, though his one loss was due to point deduction.
