The first week of May, the Quail Hollow Championship brings the PGA Tour to Charlotte, North Carolina. Since its inauguration in 2003, the Championship rapidly became one of the top events on the Tour. From 2004 to 2006, the Quail Hollow Championship ended in a playoff and, additionally, the event is known to have one of the tougher finishes on the PGA Tour, with holes 16, 17, and 18 often ranked among the Tour's toughest holes. Now the four day championship is stroke play based.
The Quail Hollow Championship is 1 of over 45 golf tournaments that makes up the PGA Tour in the United States. This is a magnificent Pete Dye-designed course. The Par 72 course makes it challenging and competitive for even the best players that golf has to offer. The layout at Quail Hollow is one of the longest on Tour, boasting three par 4's over 475 yards in length and a par 3 at 250 yards.
Certain holes are similar to Augusta, with long irons, into undulating and fast greens. The Par 3s are extremely tough where Par is a decent return. The Par 4s and Par 5s are mostly dog leg in nature, but unlike Augusta are split between lefts and rights.
what used to be know as the The Wachovia Championship is now know as The Quail Hollow Championship.
The Quail Hollow Championship is sponsored by Wells Fargo, who purchased Wachovia in 2008, necessitating the change from the original name, Wachovia Championship.
