Spread: Texas Tech -5
Total: 70.5
The Red Raiders are staring down the chance to have the winningest year in the history of their football program and much of the credit goes to Senior QB Graham Harrell whose 4700 yards passing and 41 TD’s with only 7 INT’s has been the center of their game plan ranking 2nd in the nation in passing yards per game. Cotton Bowl
The Cotton Bowl is one of the most historic bowl games in the history of college bowl games.
The Cotton Bowl classic has been played for more than 70 years. Up until now this legendary bowl game has been played at the Cotton Bowl stadium, in the Fairpark area of Dallas, Texas.
The Cotton Bowl will be played in the future at the new stadium the Dallas Cowboys are building in Arlington, Texas. At the Fairpark location, the Cotton Bowl is played on the grounds where the State Fair of Texas is located.
Cotton Bowl History
The first Cotton Bowl was actually a post-season game between two high school teams on New Years Day of 1936. The following year, college teams replaced the high school teams.
The game was originally played in Dallas's Fair Park Stadium. In 1938, it moved into its own stadium, which is named for the game.
Mobil Corporation sponsored the Cotton Bowl from 1988 through 1995. Since 1996, Southwestern Bell has been the sponsor.
The Cotton Bowl was played on Dec. 31 following the 1966 season. In all other years, it has taken place on Jan. 1.
From the 1942 season through the 1994 season, the game matched the SWC champion against an at-large opponent. Currently, teams from the Big 12 and the SEC participate in the Cotton Bowl.
The Cotton Bowl is United States college football game played annually since 1937 in Dallas, Texas. For 40 years the champion of the now-defunct Southwest Conference played as the home team in the Cotton Bowl. When the conference folded in 1996, the bowl lost much of its stature. It now matches teams from the Big Twelve Conference and Southeastern Conference.
The original home to the Dallas Cowboys was built in 1930, and aside from a few renovations, it hasn't changed much. Without luxury boxes or specialty food stands, its not much more than seats and a field, but it is full of history.
The Cotton Bowl, of course, is home to the Southwestern Bell Cotton Bowl on New Years' Day. It also hosts the Red River Shootout between Texas and Oklahoma each September.
The Cotton Bowl is located in downtown Dallas, and seats 68,252.
The Cotton Bowl also serves as home to the Dallas Burn of Major League Soccer. The stadium holds 72,000, but the upper and end zone seats are not sold for soccer games.
