Rafael Concepcion vs Donaire Boxing odds

Rafael Concepcion takes on the former IBF Fly weight Champion Nonito “ The Filipino Flash” Donaire in the Main Event, for a vacant interim junior bantamweight title, at the Hard Rock Hotel Casino and Events Center in Las Vegas on August 15. Rafael had been was orignally suppose to fight Drian Francisco on July 26th, before the bout was postponed due to the H1N1 virus scare by the Philippine authorities.

Concepcion (13-3-1, 8 KOs), from Panama City, Panama, will be making his Las Vegas debut when he tries to reclaim the title he previously held. He enters this fight having won 10 or his past 11 fights.

Rafael Concepcion, The former WBA Fedalatin Flyweight Champion left for the Philippines last July, 2008 as a huge underdog to capture the WBA Interim Super Flyweight Title in spectacular fashion, by stopping the highly touted and undefeated AJ “Bazooka” Banal. Then less than two months later went to Mexico to defend against Jorge Arce, in a hell of a tough war that Arce won, when Concepcion had to be retired after nine rounds, as referee Steve Smoger stepped in after the 9th round to stop the bout, but not before Concepcion had Arce out on his feet on several occasions.

Rafael Concepcion is training for this bout in Panama under the watchful eye of trainer Rigoberto Garibaldi and is confident that he can once again upset the odds makers. Las Vegas is the right city to do it in also.

Donaire (21-1, 14 KOs), Donaire currently holds a flyweight title, which he won with a spectacular fifth-round knockout of Vic Darchinyan in 2007, but he is on the verge of giving it up in order to move up to junior bantamweight, where he contested many of his fights before beating Darchinyan for the title. It remains the only defeat for Darchinyan, who now campaigns as the World Super Flyweight Champion.

In summary, Nonito Donaire gave a boxing clinic to Rafael Concepcion, but it wasn't evident as the Panamanian's occasional connections rocked the Filipino. At four pounds overweight, Rafael Concepcion was able to survive Donaire. Nonito Donaire's jabs was giving Concepcion problems.

Donaire was content boxing and keeping out of trouble as the overweight opponent does have power. The Filipino's pinpoint jabs would routinely open the cut his opponent sustained in the early rounds. Donaire has his moments to put away Concepcion, but it wasn't meant to be, though it was a great show of his skills. Nonito Donaire is now the World Boxing Association Interim Super flyweight champion.

Donaire vs Concepcion Notes: As most fans noted Donaire should strengthen his defense. His hands were too low for most of the fight! Donaire should also improve his technique as he lost his balance every time he unleashes a huge right. Remember fight fans Donaire fought an overweight opponent. Donaire impressed me again. He is such a complete fighter - a lesser one would fold against Concepcion.
