One of "the World Golf Championship's" most exciting events, the Bridgestone Invitational attracts some of the game's best players ala Tiger Woods, who has dominated this tournament since 1999. Tiger Woods has won this tournament - which was originally called the World Series of Golf - five times.

Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio will once again be the host of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. The 54-hole golf course is considered to be among the finest private courses in America. The WGC-Bridgestone is played on the Club's South Course.

The event has a field that is roughly half the size of a standard professional golf event.

PGA Tour betting enthusiasts focus their attention on Furyk and the rest of the Tour as they make their way to Akron, Ohio this week for the World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational at the Firestone Country Club. Each one of the Tour’s top-fifteen players is entered in the field as a warm-up for the PGA Championship the following weekend.

Eligibility:

A player may qualify to play in the WGC-Bridgestone Tournament in a number of ways. These are:

• Being a playing member of the last US and International Presidents Cup teams
  
• Being a playing member of the last Ryder Cup team
  
• Being among the top 50 ranked players on the Official World Golf Rankings (one and two weeks prior to the WFC-Bridgestone event)
  
• Winning a worldwide golf event in the last year with an Official World Golf Rank
• Strength of at least 100
• Being the winner of the selected tournment from the PGA Tour of Australia, the Sunshine Tour, the Asian Tour, or the Japan Golf Tour.

A swift and shocking turn of events on Firestone's famous 16th hole took Woods went from one shot behind to a four-shot victory Sunday as he closed with a 5-under 65 to win the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.

Woods became the first player in PGA TOUR history to win seven times on the same golf course. He also picked up 550 FedExCup points and extended his lead to 946 points.

Singh seizes World Golf Championship title at Bridgestone Invitational

Vijay Singh edged ahead of “Lighthorse” on Sunday in Akron, Ohio. But only after struggling to get past Stuart Appleby, Lee Westwood and Phil Mickelson at the Bridgestone Invitational.

On the verge of throwing away a tournament win, as Mickelson had done ahead of him, Singh of Fiji overcame some shaky putting on the back nine by making the only one that mattered — a 3 1/2 -foot par putt on the last hole that gave him a 1-shot victory.

Three times in the last year he had at least a share of the 54-hole lead and failed to finish it off. Needing two putts from 30 feet to end an 0-for-34 drought on the PGA Tour, the last thing he wanted was the kind of putt that has given him fits.
