Dover International Speedway
Dover, DE
Dover International Speedway are pleased to announce a new race name for the upcoming Sept. 27, 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event the “AAA 400. Every few years, the race changes as the title sponsor changes. Before 2007, the track did not have a title sponsor and therefore used the name of the particular track it will utilize.
With this new agreement in place, AAA Mid-Atlantic solidifies its relationship with Dover International Speedway through 2015, and will serve as the title sponsor of September’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race for six years, beginning with the Sept. 27, 2009 event.
The Dover International Speedway, which carries the moniker "The Monster Mile" is different than most tracks on the NASCAR circuit. Being constructed of concrete rather than asphalt gives Dover a different feel.
In the 2006 Dover 400 Jeff Burton rolled to the finish line ahead of the pack, piling up points along the way. In 2007, Carl Edwards grabbed the flag. Last year's returning champion, Jimmie Johnson, is eager to prove himself once again on the asphalt this fall. Johnson is intent on making sure he is taken seriously as his record speaks for himself. Last year he began a string of six straight finishes of sixth or better to close his award-winning season, not to mention winning four events during that run, which placed him within eight points of a series title. Johnson became only the second driver to claim the checkered flag in three straight major NASCAR events.

2009 AAA 400 Results
Jimmie Johnson closed September in basically the same situation as he did last year, fresh off a victory and within 10 points of first place.
But plenty separated Sunday's triumph at Dover International Speedway from one year ago at Kansas Speedway, scheduling being one of them. Besides the race occurring one event earlier in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, Johnson created his own destiny in winning Sunday's AAA 400 rather than benefiting from someone's failed gamble, leading 271 of the 400 laps from the pole.
