Rich Beem in 2002 won $990,000 for his victory in the PGA Championship, which had over 900 media credentialed to cover the event, tens of thousands of spectators in attendance, and millions watching on television around the world. Over the past eight decades, the PGA Championship has developed into one of the premier sporting events in the world.

On a windy, wild Sunday that ended a wacky week played out above the shores of Lake Michigan, Martin Kaymer won a two-man playoff to win the PGA Championship.

Dustin Johnson, however, will be the lasting story of the final major of the season.

As Kaymer and Bubba Watson began a three-hole playoff on the 10th hole at Whistling Straits after finishing at 11-under-par 277, Johnson was speaking to news reporters after being assessed a two-stroke penalty for grounding his club (pressing the club to the ground) in a bunker on the final hole as he tried to protect a one-stroke lead.
