10th - 16th August 2009

The 2009 US PGA Championship will take place between the 10th – 16th August 2009 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.

Following the wonderful battle between Harrington and Garcia in 2008, the 2009 PGA Golf Championships will feature the strongest field in golf. Since the PGA Championship is the last of the four major tournaments, the event features the most popular and
talented players in the world. At the 91st PGA Championship you can bet on the biggest names, while they compete for a winning purse of $1.3 million and the coveted Wanamaker Trophy.

The 2009 PGA Championship will feature all of the great players that you would see in the other major championships of the PGA tour. You can probably count on the likes of Phil Mickelson, and Vijay Singh among others will be putting their putters to the test on the Hazeltine National Golf course greens. Padraig Harrington will be trying to defend his title in the 2009 PGA Championship, but has struggled with swing changes this year and that was evident at the British Open, opening at -1 but finishing at +12.

Past champions include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Davis Love III, Jack Nicklaus, Sam Snead, Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan and Water Hagen.

Hazeltine National Golf Club

This very hilly course has narrow fairways, and small greens that are fast. Water hazards come into play on nine holes. This club hosted the 1970 and 1991 U.S. Opens, and the 2002 PGA Championship. It will also be the site of the 41st Ryder Cup in 2016.

Since 2002, Hazeltine has made a few changes to its golf course. It's been lengthened by about 400 yards. On Hole 12, a par 4, the championship tee is 40 to 50 yards back from where it was in 2002. The Par 72 golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, ASGCA and opened in 1961. The course rating is 76.3 with a slope rating of 147. If the course is played all the way back, close to 7700 yards, it will make it the longest major in golf history.

Future PGA Championship venues are:

2010- Sahalee Country Club, Redmond, Wash.
2011- The Atlanta Athletic Club, Duluth, Ga.
2012- The Ocean Course, Kiawah Island, S.C.

US PGA Player Championship Golf Betting Tips

Generally sports fans have their favorite teams or players. Therefore, when sports bettors place a sports bet, it's a common thing to see that bet go on their favorite team or player. In team sports like baseball or football it's easier to justify bets being placed on favorite teams like the Yankees or the Patriots because they play as a unit, and no single person is solely responsible for the outcome of the game based on their own individual performance.

However, in a sport like golf, betting on your favorite golfers can be a very costly endeavor. Unlike team sports, in golf the outcome is entirely based on individual performance and the golfer is the one making the swings, even his caddie says something different the player is the one who makes the final decision.
