In 2009, Talladega Superspeedway proudly celebrates forty years of the most competitive racing in NASCAR. Some other changes were made in, 1996 that brought the end of the AMP Energy 500 being held in the early part of August or the last part of July and was moved up to November. Talladega Superspeedway is the biggest, fastest, most competitive motorsports facility in the world. Records for both speed and competition have been established at Talladega.

Talladega Superspeedway hosts the NASCAR Busch Series, NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the Sprint Cup Series, and the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA). The superspeedway holds two NASCAR Nextel records: the most leaders an event and the most lead changes. The fastest 500 mile stock car race also took place at Talladega and for that resean, Restrictor plates will be used for the AMP Energy 500 as is the Aarons 499, the Daytona 500, and the Coke Zero 400 races. These plates serve to stop passing cars on the track.

The “Wild Card” in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup may be even wilder, as the AMP Energy 500 moves to Race Number Seven in the Chase. Tony Stewart won this event in 2008 in a race that saw a NASCAR record 28 different leaders. Will the two-time Sprint Cup.champion defend his title in 2009?

2009 AMP 500 Results

Jamie McMurray won the AMP Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, beating Kasey Kahne to the checkered flag. Joey Logano, Greg Biffle and Jeff Burton round out the top 5 in the running order. Jamie McMurray pushed the #26 Ford to an average speed of 157.213 mph and led 32 of the race's 191 laps, taking home $229,275. The race ran 3:13:54 and saw 58 lead changes. Due to 6 yellow flags, the race spent 23 laps under caution, including the last lap.
